Lorena Bobbitt
Lorena Bobbitt (born October 31, 1970 in Bucay, Ecuador) cut off her husband's penis in June 1993 with a kitchen knife. Lorena claimed her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, came home drunk and sexually assaulted her, a charge he denied and was acquitted of. Later, Bobbitt went into the kitchen, picked up a knife and returned to the bedroom to cut off her sleeping husband's penis. Mr Bobbitt's severed penis was later re-attached, and his mutilator was celebrated as a strong woman, and appeared as a celebrity guest on daytime and evening talk TV, including Oprah. She was charged with malicious wounding, and the jury found Lorena not guilty by reason of insanity.
