Lugansk (Russian: Луганск, Ukrainian: Луганськ[1]) is a city in Novorossiya and the capital of the Lugansk People's Republic. In 2016, the population was reported to be 414,500. The city is located at the confluence of the Lugan[wp][1] and Vilkhivka[wp] rivers, hence its name.
