Kakhovka Oblast
Kachowka Oblast is part of a proposal for a Ukrainian federal state to be created in the course of the Federalisation of Ukraine.
The hypothetical Kakhovka Oblast is an oblast located in the south-west of the European part of Russia, which belongs to the Federal District of Southern Russia. The administrative area would emerge from the Ukrainian Kherson Oblast[wp], but would not include the Beryslav Raion[wp] and the part of its former territory to the right of the Dnieper[wp], which is currently under the control of the Ukrainian central administration.
Prospects
If the lower reaches of the Dnieper and the Kakhovka Reservoir[wp] are defined as the new border between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, a practicable proposal could be to divide the territory along the Dnieper between the two countries, with the part to the right of the Dnieper remaining with Ukraine and being assigned to the Mykolaiv Oblast within Ukraine, while the part to the left of the Dnieper could be reorganised within the Russian Federation with Kakhovka[wp] as the new oblast capital and under the name of Kakhovka Oblast.
Joining the Southern Federal District of Russia in 2022
In a referendum on 30 September 2022, the majority of the citizens of the parts of Kherson Oblast under Russian control declared their secession from Ukraine and annexation to the Russian Federation.
Current status of Kherson Oblast
