A posture collar is a rigid collar that is wide enough to reach from under the chin to the shoulders, significantly restricting neck movement and forcing the wearer to adopt a head-up posture. Posture collars are typically made from leather, but may also be made from metal, rubber or plastics such as PVC[wp]. Posture collars are often decorated, and may include other bondage elements such as decorative spikes (compare wolf collar[wp]) or a D-ring for attaching restraints.

Posture collars are also known as corset collars or neck corsets.[1]

A posture collar is a rigid collar used in BDSM and fetish play that is wide enough to restrict movement of the neck. Posture collars help in maintaining posture[wp], keeping the chin high and the neck extended. Posture collars typically flare widely at the front to reach from the chin to the collarbone, preventing the wearer from hanging their head or looking downward.

Such collars are typically made from leather, but may also be made from metal, rubber or plastics such as PVC[wp]. Posture collars may be decorated, and may include other bondage elements such as locking closures, decorative spikes or D-rings for attaching other restraints.

A special type of posture collar is a neck corset.[2]

A posture collar is a form of collar designed to alter the position of the subject's head. A posture collar is unusually rigid, and once attached, the subject is often unable to look down.

The concept behind this type of collar is that a slave in a BDSM scene should always be 'proud', or keep their head up. In general use, it can be used to ensure that the subject doesn't avoid the situation by looking away, and often makes uncooperative subjects easier to gag and handle.[3]

A posture collar is generally made of a rigid material (or sometimes leather) and may also contain corset style boning and straps for purposes of breath play[lw]. The collar is contoured to fit the shoulders and the jawline, and stops the head turning or looking up or down. This causes increased levels of bondage and may also be used to train the s-type[bdsmwiki] to have better posture through conditioning.[4]
