Mistress is a term used to describe or address the female dominant partner in a relationship or scene. Because it is an honorific of the dominant, it is common for "mistress" to be written with a capital letter[wp].

A Mistress is the female equivalent of a Master. The word is typically used to refer to a female who dominates a slave within a Master/slave relationship. A Mistress might have little specific expertise although to own a slave successfully, she must have some abilities and skills.

See the Master article for more information on these distinctions.
